If the desire for a ham and cheese on a foot- long piece of white bread strikes; don’t go to B&B Grocery, Meat & Deli on 2001 Southeast Sixth St. because owners John and Joe Brooks won’t make that simple of a sandwich.
Our Killer Burgers made the Iowa Beef Council‘s “2013 Best Burger Top Ten”! This is really exciting for us to be in the top ten. There were 349 restaurants nominated from over 6320 nominations. Thank you to all that voted from the B&B Crew.
Now, we await the judges opinion of our Killer Burgers. They will announce Iowa’s Best Burger in May 2013.
The Killer Zone made an appearance in Beard & Pigtails, chronicles of a single dad, blogpost about touring Des Moines. We loved their line, “Slicing cows since 1922.” There are some great pictures of B&B. Check them out
Food, Des Moines, Awesome is a blog about a local man who loves his city – Des Moines. He did a Killer Zone first and wrote our Killer Spicy Chicken Sandwich.
I had the spicy breaded chicken sandwich and it was really good as the chicken was juicy and the breading was tasty but light enough to not dominate the meat. I am not sure a better sandwich bun exists, they are soft and melt in your mouth like cheese.

The Travel Channel’s Andrew Zimmern, host of Bizarre Foods, highlighted our Killer Breaded Tenderloin Sandwich on the Iowa edition of Bizarre Foods – America. The episode aired February 25th, 2013. We were a little confused when he chose to try a Killer Tenderloin. But, he said that in many countries a breaded tenderloin sandwich would be bizarre.

Eat, Play, Love Des Moines is a local blog that provides reviews for some of the best places to eat, play, and enjoy in Des Moines! They recently wrote a blog post titled “B&B makes killer sandwiches!” The writer must be originally from the New England area since there are mentions of different restaurants in that area. New England is also in our favorite line in the post:
This is the first place in Iowa that gave me that warm fuzzy feeling that only a real new england-style, grease laden, calorie-dense sub can do.
Juice Magazine and the Des Moines Register warned their readers about the Quadzilla! They even created a video on “Building Quadzilla! The quadruple decker cheeseburger”
A burger is just a burger, but the Quadzilla is four 1/3-pound burgers stacked ridiculously high. This is more than a pound of beef, topped with ketchup, mustard, lettuce, tomato, onions and pickles and served on a grilled bun. Don’t try to eat it while driving.
We’re keeping Iowans, and Cheeseburger Lovers,
on Top of the Food Chain!
Slakingfool is a food, travel, and alcohol blogger who recently wrote a piece about the Killer Zone titled, “Life in the Killer Zone“. He made multiple trips and even shared a shot of Templeton Rye with us. Here is some of what he said:
“Getting a bite off the tenderloin I appreciated the well-seasoned flavor of the pork and the crispness of the exterior. My Reuben sported a pile of tender corned beef that disappeared into my slaking pie-hole all too soon. The impressively chunky egg salad soon followed. Still peckish I snagged a trio of smooth, mustardy deviled eggs for dessert.”
Slakingfool’s blog post has a lot of great pictures and we highly recommend you read it. Here is the link to Slakingfool’s blog post, “Life in the Killer Zone!“
“And I Like to Eat” is a new blog that is “Eating my way around Des Moines…”. They recently reviewed our Killer Burgers. Our favorite part of the review:
The best part of the burger however lies in the meat – it is juicy, without being dry, it has a nice sear, without being burnt, and most importantly, it has a nice, almost smoky flavor that we crave from summertime grilling, without the taste of artificial smoke or lighter fluid.
