Our grandfather, Ralph Hayes, was a big fan of horse racing.   He was one of the lobbyists that brought horse racing to Iowa and is honored every year with a stakes race – The Ralph Hayes Classic.

Last night our family went to Prairie Meadows to watch the 23rd running of this race.  Wings of War, ridden by Shane Laviolette, won the Ralph Hayes Classic.
